Today’s readings are a powerful reminder of God’s unshakable love and protection. In Romans 8:31–39, Paul asks one of the most triumphant questions in all of Scripture: “If God is for us, who can be against us?” These words cut through fear, doubt, and uncertainty like light through darkness. No trial, no loss, no power in heaven or on earth can sever us from the love of God revealed in Christ Jesus.
Paul reminds us that Jesus not only died for us—He was raised, and now intercedes for us at the right hand of the Father. This means that our Savior is not distant or detached; He is actively advocating for us. Whatever burdens we carry—whether anxiety, persecution, or personal struggle—Christ stands beside us, ensuring that love always has the final word.
The Gospel from Luke 13:31–35 reveals this same divine love in action. Even when Jesus was warned that Herod sought to kill Him, He refused to retreat. His mission—to heal, to teach, to save—could not be stopped by fear or threat. He laments over Jerusalem, weeping for the very people who would reject Him, expressing a tenderness that only divine love could hold: “How many times I yearned to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings.”
This image of the hen—protective, nurturing, persistent—reveals the heart of God. Even when we resist His embrace, His love never wavers. Like Paul, we can be confident that nothing—not death, life, angels, or powers—can separate us from the love that surrounds us in Christ.
The Psalm echoes this truth: “Save me, O Lord, in your mercy.” When we feel poor in spirit, pierced at heart, or overwhelmed by life, we can rest knowing that God “stands at the right hand of the poor man” (Psalm 109:31). He is not far away—He is right beside us.
Faith in Action
Today, take a moment to thank God for His steadfast love. When you face a challenge, remind yourself: God is for me. Let that truth reshape your response to fear or adversity. And as you move through your day, extend that same unwavering love to someone who needs it—perhaps through forgiveness, patience, or a simple word of encouragement.
Prayer: Nothing Can Separate Us from His Love
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the unshakable promise of Your love.
In moments of fear or weakness, remind us that if You are for us, no one can stand against us.
Help us to trust that Your mercy surrounds us, even when life feels uncertain.
Lord Jesus, You gave Your life for us and now intercede on our behalf—
teach us to rest in that truth and to walk boldly in faith.
When challenges arise, let us remember that nothing—no power, no hardship, no failure—
can separate us from Your love.
Gather us under Your wings, O Lord,
and fill our hearts with peace, courage, and gratitude.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
