Anointed to Bring Hope and Heal the Brokenhearted

Golden morning light over sacred oil in a quiet church, symbolizing Christ’s healing and anointing.

There are seasons when hearts feel heavy, prayers feel quiet, and strength feels thin. The readings for the Chrism Mass remind us that God does not leave His people empty. He anoints, restores, and sends us out with grace for the work before us.

The Word
Isaiah speaks of the one anointed by the Spirit to bring glad tidings, heal the brokenhearted, and proclaim freedom. Psalm 89 celebrates the faithfulness of God, who strengthens and upholds the one He has chosen. In Revelation, Jesus is revealed as the faithful witness, the one who loves us and frees us by His Blood, making us a kingdom of priests. In the Gospel, Jesus declares that Isaiah’s promise is fulfilled in Him.

Reflection
The Chrism Mass draws our eyes to Jesus, the true Anointed One. He does not use His power to crush or condemn. He comes near to the poor, the grieving, the burdened, and the wounded. He brings healing where there has been pain and hope where there has been loss.

These readings also remind us that God’s anointing is never meant to be hidden. In Christ, His people are blessed to become a blessing. We receive mercy so we can live mercifully. We are strengthened by grace so we can serve with gentleness, faithfulness, and love.

Today is a good day to remember that the Lord still heals broken places. He still speaks freedom over what binds us. He still sends His people into the world carrying the fragrance of His goodness. Even simple acts of encouragement, prayer, and compassion can become a witness to the One who fulfills every promise.

Lord Jesus,
You are the Anointed One, full of mercy and truth.
Heal every broken place in us, lift every burden we carry,
and fill us with the oil of gladness and peace.

Teach us to receive Your grace with humble hearts

Let our lives reflect Your faithfulness today.
Amen.
